Security Licensing eService
The Security Licensing eService, designed and developed for the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, is a web forms application that allows for the online submission of licensing applications, and payment of those applications, of workers and businesses governed under the Security Services Act. The Security Services Act applies to individuals who are employed in or operate a business in the security industry, as private investigators, security patrol guards, armoured car businesses, alarm services, locksmiths and security consultants.
The Security Licensing eService is a web-based Java application, utilizing the Spring framework, allowing for online completion of license application forms. The Security Licensing eService consists of a front-end Java JEE application and a web service interface to the Ministry's Oracle database for processing services, as well as web-service interfaces to BCeID for authentication and BC Express Pay for credit card payments.
The Security Licensing eService launched in the summer of 2009, coinciding with the passing of the regulations of the Security Services Act which replaced the previous Private Investigators and Security Agencies Act. The eService was an immediate success in reducing the number of forms and payments manually processed by Security Programs and Police Technology (SPPT) staff.
JASCO is currently developing a second phase of additional functionality to further reduce the manual processing required by SPPT staff and to address changes to regulations and policies. JASCO also provides operational and application support of the Security Licensing eService for the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General.
