Criminal Record Checks eService

The Criminal Record Checks (CRC) eService, designed and developed for the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, is a web forms application for the submission of consent to criminal record checks with online credit card payment of the associated fees. The business processes and functions of the CRC eService are regulated by the Criminal Records Review Act. The CRC eService supplements the paper-based form submission and manual processing of fees.

The CRC eService is a web-based Java application, utilizing the Apache Struts framework, allowing for online completion of Criminal Record Check forms. The CRC eService consists of two front-end Java JEE applications, one for pseudo-anonymous users and one for organization users, a web service interface to the Ministry's Oracle database for processing services, and interfaces with BCeID for authentication and with BC Express Pay for credit card payments.

The CRC eService launched in the fall of 2006 and was the first client application to connect through Provincial Treasury's BC Express Pay Internet payment system. It was an immediate success in reducing the number of forms and payments manually processed by Security Programs and Police Technology (SPPT) staff. Multiple subsequent phases of functionality have been successfully implemented.

The CRC eService contributed to the Criminal Records Review Program qualifying as a finalist in the Organizational Excellence category of the Premier's Innovation and Excellence Awards in 2008.

JASCO currently provides operational and application support of the Criminal Record Checks eService for the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General.
